Omani Tent Day

Some pictures of the colorful, beautiful, delicious, and interesting things we experienced on Omani Tent  Day.

Final Read to Feed Tally!!!

Thank you so much for all of your contributions to our yearly Read to Feed Program!!  We celebrated today by gathering to sing, share the total (584 Omani Rials) and describe the items we will be able to purchase with the money (2 cows, 1 goat, 1 girl to attend school, 3 flocks of chicks and 2 sets of honeybees).  Thanks to your generosity the lives of many people will be improved in incredible ways.

Discover Oman!

Our first Discover Oman trip of the year was to the nearby village of Ghala.  We learned about the Falaj system, got to touch the warm waters of a hot spring and hiked a "mountain".  We had a wonderful time!  The weather was perfect, the students were excitedly recording all of the new information and sights in their field notes journals and loved snacking together, large group style, once we reached the top of our climb.

Beatrice's Goat

One of my absolutely favorite things to do is tie literacy with art.  Reading and writing are allowed depth and expression when made visual and our latest project reflects this premise.  As a continuing part of our unit 'The Rights of a Child',  we read the story of Beatrice's Goat late last week and discussed the ways in which one small change in a family can introduce a myriad of other changes.  The addition of one goat to a family enabled a young girl to go to school.  Her future choices were now forever altered as will be those of any children and subsequent grandchildren.  It is a beautiful story.  Our pastel compositions of Beatrice and her goat convey so much of that optimism and hope for a brighter future.  Enjoy!
