Terry Fox Run
Terry Fox Inspires TAISM to Dream Big! Mark your calendars!
Thursday, December. 10th: All-school photo on the field (2:00pm)
Terry Fox Run (2:30pm) *Parents welcome to attend as participants and/or volunteers! Student & Staff photo first, followed by all-community photo including parents.
What is the TAISM Terry Fox Run? The TAISM Terry Fox Run has become a special tradition over the past nine years, raising awareness about cancer in a hopeful, uplifting way, and raising funds to help improve treatment for children here in Oman with leukemia. There are routes for both younger and older students and adults on and around the TAISM campus, as well as assemblies and events in each division.
Dream Big! Terry Fox had a dream. As a teenager, Terry got treated for bone cancer in his left leg, in a children’s hospital ward in British Columbia, Canada. He lost his leg, but he was cured of cancer. However, when he left the hospital, he couldn’t leave behind the memories of those other kids who were also fighting cancer. Terry decided the best way to help was to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research, with one artificial leg. Now, 35 years later, Terry’s dream is still inspiring people all around the world, and his dream unites us all here at TAISM to keep fighting for his dream of a world without cancer.
Where does the money go? All funds raised during Terry Fox Runs outside of Canada stay in the country where they were raised. Funds raised by TAISM will be donated to a childhood leukemia research project at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital. *Note: EC students participate in their own mini-run on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 9:00am, but are also welcome to return to school to participate in the main run if accompanied by their parents. *See you on December 10th!*

Discover Oman!
Our first Discover Oman trip of the year was to the nearby village of Ghala. We learned about the Falaj system, got to touch the warm waters of a hot spring and hiked a "mountain". We had a wonderful time! The weather was perfect, the students were excitedly recording all of the new information and sights in their field notes journals and loved snacking together, large group style, once we reached the top of our climb.
